How random tasks work.
Exactly how Alpha decides what to give you, how many you can take in a day, what happens if you don't finish one in time, and how to control which kinds of tasks you receive.
📅 Your one daily task
Once your lock is running, Alpha automatically draws you one random task from the active task pool every day - you don't have to do anything to receive it. It shows up on your Today page as soon as it's assigned, complete with a countdown to its deadline.
➕ Extra tasks
Beyond your one daily task, you can voluntarily pull up to 4 more the same day with the ADD NEXT TASK button. You can only hold one pending task at a time, though - finish or refuse what you're currently on before you're allowed to draw another. Extra draws reset back to zero every day.
🗂️ Task categories
Alpha only assigns you automatic tasks from the categories you select in Settings → Lock settings → Task categories. Tasks with no category attached are always included for everyone, no matter what you've chosen. Until you save your own selection, every category is included by default - nothing changes for you unless you actually turn some off.
These are the categories currently available on Tracker - manage which ones apply to you from Settings → Lock settings.
🔁 No repeats until the pool runs out
Once a task has been drawn for you, it won't come up again in your random draws until every other task you're eligible for has also come up at least once. Only then does the pool reset and start over - so you won't see the exact same order twice in a row by chance.
⏳ 24 hour deadline
Every task - your daily one, an extra draw, or one a Keyholder assigns you directly - gets a full, fresh 24 hours from the exact moment it's assigned to you. The countdown is always visible right on the task card.
📸 Completing it
Upload 1-3 photos as proof (or, if you have Premium, a short video instead), with an optional caption. It posts straight to your profile and the Feed the moment you submit it.
🚫 Refusing
Don't want to do it? Refuse it outright. That adds a penalty to your lock - +2 days by default. A Keyholder can set a custom penalty (including zero) on tasks they assign you directly.
⏰ Need more time?
DEFER pushes your deadline back by 24 hours for a flat +1 day penalty - useful when life gets in the way but you don't want to refuse outright. This isn't available on tasks a Keyholder assigned you directly; those have a fixed deadline they control.
⌛ Missing the deadline
If the countdown reaches zero with nothing uploaded, the task automatically expires - and the exact same penalty as refusing it applies, with no extra step from you. Nothing forces you to be online right when it happens; the daily sweep catches it.
📷 Live camera requirement
Occasionally - only on tasks a Keyholder assigns you directly - a task may require the proof photo to be taken live, right there in the app. That blocks gallery uploads entirely, so the proof can't be an old photo pulled from your camera roll.
Once in a while, Alpha may also schedule a specific task in advance for a future day instead of drawing one at random. It still plays by every rule above - same deadline, same refuse/defer/expire penalties.
